FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about environmental consultancy in Uganda.

Is Foresters Environmental Consultants Ltd NEMA certified?

Yes. Foresters is fully certified by Uganda's National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) with Registration No. CC/EIA/168/20. Our lead consultant, Mr. Happy Peter Murwanyi, is also a registered Environmental Auditor (CC/EA/168/20) and member of the Uganda Association of Impact Assessors (UAIA).

What is an ESIA and when is it required in Uganda?

An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) is a mandatory regulatory process required by NEMA Uganda before most development projects can be approved. It evaluates environmental and social impacts of a proposed development and prescribes mitigation measures. Any project listed in the Second Schedule of Uganda's National Environment Act requires an ESIA.

How long does an ESIA take in Uganda?

A standard ESIA typically takes 2–6 months depending on project complexity, site conditions and NEMA's review timeline. Foresters ensures efficient study preparation and proactive engagement with NEMA to minimise delays and keep your project on schedule.

Do you work on World Bank funded projects?

Yes. Our director and lead consultant has hands-on experience on 5+ World Bank funded projects across Uganda, including rural electrification under REA (ERTIII), road infrastructure, hydropower and water & sanitation. We are fully familiar with World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) and IFC Performance Standards.

Can Foresters provide on-site EHS managers and safety officers?

Yes. We deploy qualified EHS managers and safety officers directly to construction and project sites. We handle C-ESMP implementation, contractor compliance monitoring, daily/weekly site reporting and incident investigation — fully integrated with your project team.

What is a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) and do you prepare them?

A RAP is required when a project involves physical or economic displacement of people. It includes baseline census, socioeconomic surveys, asset valuation, entitlement frameworks and grievance mechanisms. Foresters prepares comprehensive RAPs aligned with World Bank OP 4.12, IFC PS5 and Uganda's Land Act.
